Breaking up with the part of myself that is "too Native" and "too feminine to make art." Breaking up with the part of myself that is afraid.

to speak or die, 2021
About unrequited love and struggling with whether or not to express one’s emotions. The figure in the beginning writes a letter, but struggles to articulate their feelings, choosing ultimately to remain silent. There are physical elements such as construction paper, string, and candy/foam hearts layered underneath and on top of found/filmed footage throughout the video. The layering suggests the quality of having layered or concealed feelings. “to speak or die” features found footage from Call Me by Your Name, Weeds, Plain Clothes, Patsy Cline, and Leonard Cohen.

Are You Stressed?, 2021
A piece about intrusive thoughts seeping in while one is trying to relax. The figure at the beginning of the video takes a bath but the intrusive thoughts about colonization, sexualization, and the real consequences of these forms of “representation” (violence towards Indigenous bodies) seep in through the form of found footage. There are intimate moments between my (Navajo) family layered underneath found footage and clips of Indigenous representation I stumbled across in stores and while consuming media in my free time. “Are You Stressed?” features found footage from TikTok, the IT Crowd, Peter Pan, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Lovecraft Country, and Falling Down
